PSHE

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

What is PSHE?

PSHE stands for personal, social, health, and economic, which are the broad areas this important subject covers. Sometimes referred to as 'Life Skills,' this subject is taught throughout all key stages, in both primary and secondary schools on the island. An effective PSHE programme will reflect the vision and aims of the school, and should be informed by the needs and values of the local community. Because of this, the delivery of PSHE education will look a little different from school to school. Despite these differences, the overarching aims of PSHE education are shared by all schools: to contribute to the development of the 'whole child' and empower them to thrive.

Throughout your child's learning journey, their PSHE education will cover a range of topics, such as:

  • emotional health and well-being
  • relationships and sex education
  • drugs and alcohol education nutrition and physical education
  • financial education and employability skills
  • digital literacy and online safety

Lessons are taught in a manner that is developmentally appropriate, and each year's PSHE curriculum will build upon prior learning.
